I highly recommend you try this establishment which is owned by Alex and his wife. It is a small place tucked away on the Avenida Tulum not far from ScotiaBank. Lunch is simply $80pesos ( about $4.50usd ) with a choice of 3 entrees which all include lemon water (mild lemonade), soup with alphabet pasta and main dish with rice and black beans. The choices during our visit were chicken enchiladas, pork in peanut sauce and vegetarian. We ordered the pork and were not disappointed! All items are served in metal dishes and the pork, vegetables and sauce were fresh, flavorful and unique! The name of the restaurant, Huauzontle, represents a Mexican vegetable that slightly resembles a miniature broccoli in shape as well as taste. Huauzontle is also open for breakfast and dinner with a more varied menu and Alex also owns a torte restaurant on Satelite close to the main street.I highly recommend you check it out as it is some of the BEST food in Tulum (no alcohol is served).
