Mar Plata - CHOLULA DE RIVADAVIA

Even after chef Armandine left the area, Mar Plata used to be one of the finest restaurants on the Riviera Nayarit! Disappointingly, it has gone way down hill.We used to look forward to the wait staff bring to the table a tasty little loaf of bread with a tapenade. They brought the bread, it looked like what was offered in years past but is was awful: dry and tasteless!! When I mentioned this to the waitress, she seemed shocked and said, "We make it here." That comment was not inspiring.The next "downturn" was not the dishes we ordered; they were quite delicious. The problem was that the hot entree was brought to us less than 90 seconds after the salads arrived, crowding the table and disrupting the dining experience.The coup de grace was when they wouldn't allow us to charge the food on our credit card (despite having accepted credit cards in years past). When I asked why they wouldn't take a card the waitress said "Didn't he tell you?" The trouble is there was no "he." The waitress seated us and was the only one with whom we dealt and neither she nor the menus said that the policy had changed. (BTW, language was not an issue in any of this.)Sadly, I cannot imagine this restaurant surviving. There are too many really good places to eat in San Pancho. Mar Plata has slipped badly and this is very disappointing!

Have eaten here several times before and not disappointed this visit. Everything was excellent. The red snapper tar tar and octopus appies were first class. Two mains of prawns and cuscous excellent and the mushroom caneloni in green curry sauce magnificent. Accompanying wine very crisp. Menu more limited than last trip but everything we tried was excellent!!

This restaurant features an unexpectedly memorable experience. The menu features several creative dishes. We started with succulent fresh octopus accompanied by unrecognizable but delicious green beans. Our entrees were peppers stuffed with shrimp and lentils and mole with shrimp. Both meals had remarkably nuanced flavorings. The house made anejo tequila was excellent as was the wine list of mostly Mexican wines. Highly recommended, especially if you are tired of yet another meal of grilled mani mani.

The food was prepared perfectly and the variety was limited but sufficient.The beet salad was a highlight the the steak and peppers was rare as I requested.They were out of a couple items, but there was a large group of polo players there that night.A very easy walk if you are staying at the north end of San Pancho.

Everything is good here. I dont think you can go wrong. Good drinks, food and impressive service. Save room for dessert so that you can try a chocolate fondue that you will love and remember forever!

We had heard great things about this restaurant from several people, so we decided to leave Sayulita for a night in San Pancho. While it was nice to see the town, and the decor and view from the restaurant were great, the service was ok, and my meal (pasta with pesto sauce) was served luke warm and had to be sent back. My husband's steak was very good and we did have a nice bottle of wine. Not sure I would go back.

this is a wonderful restaurant with exceptionally great food. The presentation is very nice and the desserts are equally fabulous. Good cocktails too. The waiters were wonderful, once engaged, we found out all about them and where they were from (Argentina and Mexico City) both great guys, we wish them well! The ambiance there is great, under the stars or under the star lights, you really can't go wrong here. Be patient and enjoy!

We wanted to try even if we didn't get recommendations. Very nice place, excellent service but the food was good, I wouldn't say excellent.
