The owners father told us us of this restaurant and he was so right, Jardin Maya is wonderful. His father has operated Miguels Moonlite around the corner for many years and the transfer of excellence has worked. Two things down here are always an indicator of excellent food and those are the guacamole and margaritas offered, both here are very good. The food and servings are fantastic.
I recently visited Isla Mujeres with friends over New Years for a bachelorette party. Jardin Maya was open during the New Years celebration at the city center and offered my friends and I excellent, fast service (and access to their bathrooms!! . They were friendly and made conversation with us in English and Spanish. They did a great job quickly mixing a variety of drinks for the 9 of us during what seemed to be one of the busiest nights of the year. We even came back the next day to visit with the waiters/bartenders and have a few drinks. They welcomed us with free shots of tequila, chips and continued their habit of providing great service to my friends and me. The drinks were delicious and it was a great atmosphere for laid back fun. I only wish we had time to eat here as well. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Isla Mujeres! It seemed like a great place to eat but proved to be an even better place for a nice end of the night beverage as well!
We had a great and authentic dinner of queso relleno and panuchos . Sadly there are just a few good restaurants in the island, and this is an excellent one. Very casual and inexpensive!
We visited Jardin Maya primarily because it is owned by Miguel's (of Miguel's Moonlite) son and wanted to give Miguel Jr. some business as he had just opened recently. It did not disappoint! The restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere you can either dine inside or out. We both had the cochinitas pibil which was out of this world, generous portions and served with fresh warm tortillas and pickled onion. Service was courteous and prompt (but not rushed) and the drinks were generous and refreshing. We also liked the location although on Hidalgo, it is on the quiet end closer to the town square, so we got to enjoy our meal without loud music competing all around us. We'd definitely visit again!
I was looking forward to eating here based on all of the reviews and we even went out of our way to find it during our stay on the island. Unfortunately, the meals were a bit on the lackluster side. My fellow travelers said their meals were bland while mine (a chicken breast in a black bean sauce) was so salty as to be almost inedible. Maybe it was just an off night for them but this place left us unimpressed.
Carlos was an attentive and friendly host and I enjoyed the meal very much we had traditional pibil with all the fixings, along with chicken nachos and the simplest but best guacamole I have ever had. My dinner companions were not as impressed with the meal as I was, saying they found it to be bland. Plenty of options to spice the food to your taste were available, and they cleaned their plates as thoroughly as I did. The location is convenient, but it is on the strip, so you are subject to the goings on in adjacent businesses. Halfway through our dinner a live band started next door, which put a damper on conversation, but was no fault of Carlos. Overall a good dinner.
We were strolling down Hidalgo when a maitre d' called us over, seeking to induce us to eat at his restaurant. There weren't a lot of people there so we were prepared to move on but decided to take a peek at the menu first. It looked good and there were at least a couple things we were intrigued by so we sat down. So glad we did! The food was simply delicious. My Mayan inspired chicken tacos were superb moist, flavorful and deliciously seasoned. Service was attentive and friendly too. We'll definitely return.
