This is one of the oldest restaurants in town and is housed in an old, typical village building with tables set in protected areas (from rain) around a central open patio. I love the old mural of an important historical event as well as the plows and other country tools decorating the main wall. The service is very fine, attentive and friendly and if you like meat, this is the place. I recommend especially the arrachera and vasio cuts - very tender. If there's a vegetarian in your group, try the cheese fondue, bean soup, fried plantains, guacamole. These can make a full meal.

We ate twice and enjoyed the meals and atmosphere. Each time we tried variety and was never disappointed. It was good to see locals eating here also. Wait staff was attentive.

This is an old Mexican restaurant, outdoor seating but walled and cool to sit with lots to look at and pleasant music not too loudMy husband had pork chops which I thought were a bit dry but he said were good, I had rib eye steak which was one of the best steaks I have had for years, very tender. The main courses come with lots of items, refried beans, fried pineapple, a roast jalepeno pepper which I was unwise enough to nibble at,,,,,sooo hot. guacamole, and tortillas. We had Queso Fundido .....baked cheese...to start with, it was delicious, much nicer than I have had in many places. The only "sour" spot was the glass of wine which had obviously been poured from a long open bottle. Next time I will have beer. The service was adequate, the bill was 455 pesos. I will go back again and have the ribeye, but I will ask for a salad with it.

Very popular with tourists from Guadalajara. Authentic local cuisine in terms of beef. Tacos to steaks, quick service. Lots of antique ranchers memorabilia on walls. No English spoken. They do get tacos and midstream. Very fast service. Look for two tall old style wooden doors, just south of the main church Senor del Monte, and a liquor store.

decor 5 stars, staff courtesy 5 stars. Menu diversity 3 stars. It's what it claims to be, a steak and rib house. The only suggestion on how it might improve would be to have one or two non-beef or pork items for those who prefer chicken or fish. Good value for your money.

La Carreta is a grilled steak house, established back in the '80s, and is decorated in warm colors with old time farm implements hanging on the walls. They have T-bone plus several Mexican cuts. I recommend their "Vacio", which I think the tenderest piece of beef I have eaten in Mexico. Service is attentive and delivered with a smile. Prices are moderate. They are open Thursday - Tuesday, 1:30 - 8:30.

My wife and I chose to eat here to celebrate our move to Jocotepec and we were blown away by how good it was. Both of our steaks were tender and seasoned to perfection. Very good meat, very flavorful. The accompaniments (pineapple, guacamole, grilled chilies...and onions) allowed each bite to have a different mix of flavors. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The open air dining space is cool and pleasant, with interesting wall art (they are redecorating this month October I thought the prices were quite reasonable for a dining big steaks, a queso fundito starter, and artisanal beer and sangria was a bit over pesos. They have a huge selection of different cuts of meat, the wait staff will be happy to help you decide. We eat here at least once a month now and love it every time.

Husband and I moved to Jocotepec and as a surprise, hubby brought us to La Carreta, a place quite literally out of our budget. But he read reviews that swayed his tight pocketbook open, and last week we ventured inside the beautiful wooden doors to...garden setting, with breezeway and flora everywhere. Service was impeccable, even with slight language issues on our part. But the ribeye I got, huge and perfectly medium, was all gone in but a few minutes. It was salted perfectly. Husband got flank or flap steak, thick and delightfully cooked, also medium, for a few pesos more. In the USA I quit eating steak because it never tasted right, even fresh from Safeway or Costco, the flavor was downright weird to me. But in this region, the cows are sweet. The meat was delicious. Vegetarian friends and family, I am not sorry. These animals are treated well during their lives, I did research. We will definitely save up and go once a month. I insist. Total cost was USA with beverages. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
