Pedro and Lola's is arguably Mazatlan's most prestigious and legendary restaurant, for a lot of reasons. Even if you don't know the background, don't know who Pedro Infante and Lola Beltran are, don't recognize the original Lopez Saenz painting of Angela Peralta, don't know who the old musician with all the horns is, you will still love it. It features both indoor and outdoor seating; most choose to sit out in the blocked off street and enjoy excitement of the plaza Machado at night. If you want a quiet romantic dinner, go inside. They have a wide variety of musical acts, classic jazz, blues, rock, even country, so every night is different. A parade of interesting people wanders by, conga gangs with break dancers, tarot readers, wandering minstrels, sketch artists, craftsmen, dance troupes, locals and tourists. Oh, yeah, the food. It's great, I particularly like the bone-in pork haunch. I've been in the kitchen often, and it is impressive, all gleaming stainless steel and well organized. The wait staff are a bunch of characters, most of them have been there many years, it's like a big friendly family. Of course, sometimes they get swamped, it's too popular, but if you're patient it all works out. It's not the cheapest place in the Plaza, but it's the best.
