we saved a light lunch, shared a tlayuda. the best in oaxaca. a humble place with great food.

this is a so-called hole-in-the-wall with all 4 tabs, but eating was remarkably good, and the prices remarkably low. the two of us had a tlayuda, 2 burritos and a fruit juice and the cost with leaving a generous tip came to $8.

here, on recommendation of my host, for a comida corrida near the house. a comida corrida is a light, multi-course meal served on the afternoon. it can or may not be a choice. Typically there is a drink with refilling, suppe, main course, dessert. an appetizer. they are cheap. when I spent the summer of 2007 in oaxaca in a working class neighborhood. I ate many comida corrida. the prices were 25 35 pesos. in the tourist areas they would be higher, sometimes 80 pesos. mama! elena is in a popular opposite near the cathedrale, but the price was only 50 pesos. I ate here twice. once it was late and I got the tacos dorados. they were good. the second time was for the comida corrida. the suppe was okay. the fish is perfectly cooked. salate completely fresh. the banane with yogurt and granola? a very refreshing end of the meal. service was fast and friendly. an excellent deal. 4 because there is simply an upper limit on comidas corridas. at least in my experience. Notes: 1 the entrance is actually on calle de m bravo and is very easy to miss because ... 2 this is a true hole in the wall with few tables. if an open seat is present on a table, they can take it. I saw that.

for what it is a hole in the wall with, perhaps, sitting for 12 at most this is a large, small, basic place with honest, good eating, good service and great trips. we had two large glasses of fresh juices (orance and papaya). two eggs, friijoles and ham and two eggs thrown, sink and friijoles, both with a generous part of bollilo total bill 100 pesos. the whole food, although it was simple, was perfectly prepared and the ladies who serve us and prepare for eating were great.
