Leaving the "Templo de Santo Domingo" after this evenings festivities, I walked by the Oaxacan Real Hotel and I stopped to take a picture of their "Dia de los Muertos" altar. When I asked if they had a restaurant, I was told to go upstairs.A helpful waiter showed me to the terrace and brought a menu. Almost immediately I noticed they served Tlayuda´s. I was intrigued because I had recently overheard a few people discussing their delicious Tlayuda. Not knowing what a Tlayuda was, I went ahead and ordered one. Why not? This was a when in Rome kind of moment.Anyway, it was delicious. Obviously my spying had paid off. I still do not know what a Tlayuda really is other than a mouthful of yummy goodness. Imagine a flat burritto that is grilled like a quesadilla. The roof-top terrace seating was magnificent and the view of the night sky was amazing. I even saw a shooting star.

First off, the good part: the setting is lovely, on the rooftop of a hotel (can't remember the name of the hotel), and the waiters were very cordial, even though they screwed up my order. Now the bad part: We had a long--happy, but long--day touring, and I was thrilled when I saw they had Caesar salad with shrimp on the menu. I was ready for something green and crisp, and I really like the Mexican camarones. The salad came with chicken, and since it had taken us quite a while to get our dinner, I didn't want to wait for a correction, so I ate it. The chicken was actually good, just not what I had ordered. Also, the salad was not the crispy one I had been looking forward to, but was limp. Our friend had chicken with mole negro. He got a chicken leg, which would not have been his first choice, and the mole was terrible. He said if that had been the first mole he had been given in Oaxaca, he would not have had anymore. We would not return.

the place is simple, nothing imaginative, but the service is exceptional. we just wanted to relax and have a drink after derguelaguetza and ended with the order of dipping. we had the garnel tacos and fish dishes and it was so delicious the prices are the same. as everywhere else, about 190 pesos per court. returns definitiw.

our party of 8 decided to dinate in la terraza de tita in our last night in oaxaca. the weather was beautiful and the escaping area on the dach was beautiful and welcoming. the personal was pleasant and professional and eating was not disappointed. The...menu was varied from fillet mignon to seafood to classic Oaxacan dishes. we have selected a lot of different items and all enjoyed their meal. we have sampled several different animals locally in the Oaxaca region and enjoyed each of them. the prices were reasonable and we were glad that we had chosen this restaurant.
